Balgedie Toll Tavern

Update

We have enjoyed being open again over the past 3 months, seeing all of our customers.  Although the levels have changed we will still be carrying on with many of our procedures - such as table service, one way system and regular sanitising to continue to keep both our customers and staff safe.

We are still required to record personal details/use ‘check-in Scotland app’ for Test and Protect

We have been exceptionally busy (yippee!) since re-opening  and pre booking is advised as we hate to have to turn folk away.

As is natural at this time of year some of our staff are heading back to University, and we have some younger new staff starting in the next few weeks. We think having a part time job in a hospitality setting is a great way of building confidence and social skills with these youngsters, and look forward to them joining our team and seeing them develop.

About

Our Story

The Balgedie Toll Tavern is a country pub  in rural Kinross-shire, serving great food and real ales.  Run by Neil Cairney and family since September 2019 you can be assured of a warm welcome.

The Balgedie Toll Tavern is a welcoming and comfortable country tavern which, like many others built at the time in Scotland, was situated at a road toll where travellers would break their journey and pay tolls before travelling on (the Tolls were abolished in 1872). Now much extended, the oldest part of the building (the Toll house) is at the southern end.

It has two restaurant seating areas, one upstairs and one downstairs in the main bar plus a small snug bar. The interior is traditional with low ceilings, oak beams, stone walls and open fire places.  On a sunny day the outside seating area provides a place to relax.

A good selection of real ales, malt whiskies, wines,  and gins are available.  Locally roasted coffee  and great food are  served Thursday - Monday.  On a Wednesday night we have a "pub night" where we are open from 5pm for drinks only, no food as our kitchen team are having a well earned rest.

From traditional recipes to Head Chef Edward's kitchen adventures, the menu reflects our passion for high-quality local seasonal food presented in a simple yet pleasing manner.

Takeaway @ The Toll

Delicious Takeaway

We are grateful that our family and staff are all healthy and are so appreciative of all NHS and  other key workers at this time.

The hospitality business has been hit hard by the COVID-19 situation, and given the historic layout of The Balgedie Toll where 2 metre social distancing is difficult, we  had to adapt in order to survive in the long term.

We were delighted to continue to offer our Takeaway Service even although we have re-opened.

We will be serving the same great food,  served in recyclable containers for you to enjoy in the safety of your own home.  The menu is restricted and some of your favourites may not be available as they simply don't perform well in carry out containers. You will find the Takeaway menu under the Menu Tab on the home page. Please check before ordering as  Edward will make regular changes.

Our wine list and bottled beers will be available.

Please be patient when calling as we only have 1 phone line.
