We are pleased to say we have been successful in recruiting a 2nd chef - who will be able to look after kitchen operations when Edward is having a day off. This means we are now able to open on a Tuesday. Neil will be in from 11.30 for any telephone bookings.
The Balgedie Toll Tavern is a country pub in rural Kinross-shire, serving great food and real ales. Run by Neil Cairney and family since September 2019 you can be assured of a warm welcome.
The Balgedie Toll Tavern is a welcoming and comfortable country tavern which, like many others built at the time in Scotland, was situated at a road toll where travellers would break their journey and pay tolls before travelling on (the Tolls were abolished in 1872). Now much extended, the oldest part of the building (the Toll house) is at the southern end.
It has two restaurant seating areas, one upstairs and one downstairs in the main bar plus a small snug bar. The interior is traditional with low ceilings, oak beams, stone walls and open fire places. On a sunny day the outside seating area provides a place to relax.
A good selection of real ales, malt whiskies, wines, and gins are available. Locally roasted coffee and great food are served 6 days, with the kitchen being closed on a Wednesday.
On a Wednesday night we have a "pub night" where we are open from 6pm for drinks only, no food as our kitchen team are having a well earned rest.
From traditional recipes to Head Chef Edward's kitchen adventures, the menu reflects our passion for high-quality local seasonal food presented in a simple yet pleasing manner.
Open 6 days - closed Wednesday.
We are open from 12 noon for food and drinks.
Kitchen is open 12 noon - 2.45pm and 5pm - 8.30pm, with last table booking at 8.30pm.
The kitchen is closed all day on Wednesday.
On a Wednesday night we have a pub night from 6.00pm (Kitchen is closed), no need to book just turn up and join in with the fun!
On the 1st Wednesday of the month we have a jamming session for local musicians to come along, all welcome to take part or just sit and listen to our talented locals.
On the 2nd Wednesday of the month we have a Quiz night which starts at 7.30pm, teams of 4. The proceeds from the quiz always go to a local charity, recently we have made donations to KYTHE, Broke not Broken, Portmoak Village Hall and Portmoak Primary.

On the last Wednesday of the month we have a relaxed Scottish music evening when local musicians come along and play, all are welcome to come either to listen or join in.
