Balgedie Toll Tavern
We are delighted to be re-opening our doors on 26th April at 12 noon. We have put in place a number of procedures such as perspex screens, table service, one way system and regular sanitising to keep both our customers and staff safe. No alcohol is allowed to be served inside the building.
We also have to adhere to a number of rules from the Scottish Government relating to capacity. Currently we can take bookings for up to 6 people from 2 households. Children under 12 do not count towards the number of people but do count towards the number of households.
We will be keeping physically distanced and recording personal details/using ‘check-in Scotland app’ for Test and Protect.
We have carried out training with everyone to ensure they understand the COVID rules. As is natural some of our younger staff have moved on in the last year as they get on with the next stage of their life, and as a result we have some new staff, please be patient with them as they settle in.
The Balgedie Toll Tavern is a country pub in rural Kinross-shire, serving great food and real ales. Run by Neil Cairney and family since September 2019 you can be assured of a warm welcome.
The Balgedie Toll Tavern is a welcoming and comfortable country tavern which, like many others built at the time in Scotland, was situated at a road toll where travellers would break their journey and pay tolls before travelling on (the Tolls were abolished in 1872). Now much extended, the oldest part of the building (the toll house) is at the southern end.
It has two restaurant seating areas, one upstairs and one downstairs in the main bar plus a small snug bar. The interior is traditional with low ceilings, oak beams, stone walls and open fire places. On a sunny day the outside seating area provides a place to relax.
A good selection of real ales, malt whiskies, wines, and gins are available. Locally roasted coffee and great food are served Thursday - Monday.
From traditional recipes to Head Chef Edward's kitchen adventures, the menu reflects our passion for high-quality local seasonal food presented in a simple yet pleasing manner.
Takeaway @ The Toll
We are grateful that our family and staff are all healthy and are so appreciative of all NHS and other key workers at this time.
The hospitality business has been hit hard by the COVID-19 situation, and given the historic layout of The Balgedie Toll where 2 metre social distancing is difficult, we had to adapt in order to survive in the long term.
We were delighted to continue to offer our Takeaway Service even although we have re-opened.
We will be serving the same great food, served in recyclable containers for you to enjoy in the safety of your own home. The menu is restricted and some of your favourites may not be available as they simply don't perform well in carry out containers. You will find the Takeaway menu under the Menu Tab on the home page. Please check before ordering as Edward will make regular changes.
Our wine list and bottled beers will be available.
Please be patient when calling as we only have 1 phone line.
For our first week of opening from 26th April we will be open Monday - Sunday 12noon - 8.00pm inside the building. The Beer garden will be open until 10pm.
Thereafter we will revert to closing on a Tuesday & Wednesday.
12 noon - 8pm (inside)
12 noon - 10 pm (outside)
